Photographing action at a dog photography session
/I am sure you’ve thought about the different types of images you’ll get from your dog photography session.
You might have special request or idea for your wall art and I’ll do my best to get that shot. As a dog photographer in the Toronto area, I find that in addition to the request for lovely portraits and photos of dogs with their family, many clients ask for those dynamic action shots of their dogs running, jumping and playing. They may not be your first choice for an enlargement or wall art, but they will definitely be wonderful memories when you look back on your photos and make great additions to a coffee table book or album.
What brings a smile to your face more than seeing a dog happily running and playing? When you call your dogs and they come running to you joyfully, that’s certain to brighten your mood and make you smile.
So in most of my dog photography sessions I try to incorporate a few “dogs in action” shots.
Ears flying, eyes wild, hair blowing in the wind. That is what I aim to capture for you. When I do pet photo sessions at the beach, I’ll usually manage to get some great photos of the dogs running through water, freezing the action of your pet splashing in the lake or ocean.
Dog owners always enjoy these photographs of their pets.
Do we need to do anything special need for a “dogs in action” photo session?
All you need are treats, balls, toys or whatever motivates your special pooch and let’s capture your dog in action! It may even simply be a call from you to achieve a great running shot. I’ll need my camera that captures many frames per second to capture and freeze the action.
If you are thinking of a dog photography session in and around the Toronto area, please feel free to ask for some action shots of your pups. You are welcome to contact me to discuss session types or set up a time for a free consultation.
Update: November 2022. Here’s another post I have written on capturing dogs in action during their portrait session.
This blog post is part of a 52-week pet photography project and the topic of today’s blog is “Action”. Next up in the blog circle is Tracy Allard of Penny Whistle Photography fetching pet and family portraits in Coppell, Carrollton and the greater Dallas - Fort Worth metroplex.
